What Zendrive Can Teach Us About Driver Behavior

Picture

Buggy and many transportation providers, such as Uber, have relied on Zendrive to track driver behavior and improve safety standards. Zendrive gives you a snapshot of your driver’s speed, idling, and hard stops that help you identify patterns that might be impacting the safety of your service-- and your bottom line. The latter point is one that many businesses fail to realize, and can come at a large financial cost.

The costs for gas, repairs, and insurance are all impacted by negative driver behaviors such as excessive speeding, harsh acceleration, hard braking, and texting while driving. When you accelerate too quickly or too often, you burn way more gas, which can really impact operational costs when you are considering large vehicles like Sprinter vans. It’s an issue that Buggy follows closely to ensure the safety of our riders as well as excessive gas costs.  Inflation has forced many companies to face these inefficient and risky behaviors from their drivers head-on.

The largest single expense for most transportation companies, Buggy included, is commercial insurance. The commercial auto insurance industry has lost money every year for nearly a decade, and as a result, companies are making it increasingly expensive to insure fleets. On top of the regular astronomical costs for insurance, driver behavior can impact your rate. We teach defensive driving to our Buggy Coachies to drill in the very important reality that their actions on the road count towards the safety and profitability of our service.

In a city like Miami where people are notorious for cutting people off and speeding, it’s crucial that our drivers are on high alert and proactively avoid accidents. We do not allow texting while on the road (only at stops) and discourage our parents from calling drivers directly. Distracted driving while texting is the single biggest cause of accidents. Our primary goal is maintain a safe service, while those same habits and driver behavior also enable us to run profitably. We’d call that a win-win!

Onwards,
The Buggy Team
